Dove Creek Bible Church, originally the Evangelical Free Church of Bakersfield, began in 1989. Jeff Harrington, a graduate of California Baptist College (now California Baptist University), planted the church through the Evangelical Free Church of America with three friends. Pastor Jeff was bi-vocational until April of 2009, working for the church and the Kern County Probation Department as an Adult Probation Officer. Since retiring from the probation department, he works at the church full-time.

Presently the church partners locally with the Teen Challenge, the Forgotten Initiative (foster care assistance), and the Church Without Walls. The church also partners with Hands of Mercy and the Gabriel House in Mexico and Dwelling Places in Kampala, Uganda and a school in Bwindi, Uganda.
